Divorce is really complicated. And it’s going to get even more complicated for Dr Dre. He’s estranged from his wife, Nicole Young. And now Young is challenging their prenup. So, after a 24-year-long marriage to Dr Dre, Nicole Young filed for divorce in June, this year.
And according to Young, she was forced to sign the prenup when she married Dr. Dre in 1996. She says: ‘I was extremely reluctant, resistant and afraid to sign the agreement and felt backed into a corner…I was left with not option but to hire a lawyer…and unwillingly signed the agreement very shortly before our marriage’
In addition to this, Nicole Young claims that Dr. Dre destroyed the prenuptial agreement.
According to documents, Nicole describes how ‘since…he tore up the agreements, we both understood that there was no premarital agreement and that it was null and void’
What terms are not allowed to be included in a Californian prenuptial agreement?
-the agreement cannot involve anything illegal or against public policy
-so children’s rights have to stay under court control
-and this is due to the importance of the child’s best interest
-so you are not allowed to compromise your current or future children’s rights
-however, couples can provide a child with mire support than is legally required
-so decisions can be made by a couple in relation to the responsibility for college expenses
-what’s more; courts may not enforce agreements relating to child uprearing
