How does child custody work in California?

-In California, custody is awarded ‘in the child’s best interest’

-the child’s best interest is considered when deciding how time with children will be split

-and the parents begin with the same rights

-so there are two main policies

-and they are to do with:

  1. Health, safety and welfare
  2. The positive effects of ongoing connection with both parents
